Giessbach Falls, Switzerland. Day 4/9. 25 Aug to 2 Sept 2022.

 28 Aug 2022, Sunday. 22 to 27 degrees celsius.
Hiking at Giessbach Falls feels cool as the place was forested. We ended up wearing our sweater while hiking.
Giessbach Falls, Grandhotel Giessbach located on top of a hill.
While planning for my trip, I came across a Swiss youtuber who recommended this place.
Giessbach Falls is located at Lake Brienze too, so we can easily visit by taking the ferry from Ringgenberg See to Giessbach See, where our hotel was located.
Decided to include into our itinerary as the waterfall and funicular attracted me.

SBB App showed that the first ferry from Ringgenberg to Giessbach was 9.33am. Though we wanted to leave earlier, we have to wait for the ferry at 9.33am. Ferry did 2 stops, at Niederried and Iseltwald before reaching Giessbach.
In Switzerland, it is so easy to get around. Just check the SBB App and it will show us how to get to the specific place with what kind of transport. While I was writing this blog, I just understand that the ferry timing for today 4 Oct is different from the day we travelled on 25th Aug 2022. The travel itinerary is differnt too. So it is advisable to check the SBB App everytime we wanted to travel to some place, pre-plan before venturing to another place.

Our 1st ferry ride in Lake Brienz at Ringgenberg ferry point. The crews worked hard at every ferry point, ensuring safety of passengers going on board and off board the ferry.
By the way, there are toilets in the ferry and it is free.

Funicular is operated by Grandhotel Giessbach.
This is the link to Grandhotel Giessbach, the link that I searched for funicular information.
We reached Giessbach at about 10.10am. Decided to take the funicular to Grandhotel Giessbach before hiking up the waterfall. Funicular ride cost CHF5 per way. So return trip was CHF10. The Swiss Pass do not cover transportation not owned by SBB. Funicular ride was fun and lasted less than 5mins. We followed their summer timetable(26th May to 18th Sep 2022) for the funicular rides. Understand from website that this funicular only operates in Summer. So best to check out their timetable before planning your trip here for the funicular ride.

The funicular ride up to Grandhotel Giessbach.

We were already halfway through Giessbach falls when the funicular reached Grandhotel Giessbach. Immediately, we felt the change in weather here. This place was well shaded by trees and at a upper ground. Not sure what is the exact temperature but we all started to put on our sweater before starting our hike.
Daughter and hubby signalled me to look at the green moss (Bottom left picture above)when I was just about to step on the trail. An European Robin. So pretty and small hopping aound. Unfortunately, it was under low light and my camera just couldn't pick up a sharp picture. So sad but it is ok. I was so happy that I have spotted a beautiful lifer.

It was rather easy for us to hike to this waterfall as we were already halfway up the hill via funicular. This was the waterfall I wanted to visit after watching the all the youtube's video on Giessbach falls. Felt so amaze by how we can walk under the real waterfall.

Giess Falls. Mid way up the falls.

A picture of this waterfall taken from a lower groud after crossing the bridge.
We thought this was the end of the hike, so boring. But no....

Actually, we can hike further up the hill to the starting top of the waterfall. First we need to hike up the steep trail. This was very challenging.
Oh yes. While hiking up the trail, do remember to look back and admire the lake and Grandhotel Giessbach.
This was where we stop after some steep walk. I gave up. Really breathless.
The actual feel was much more better than this picture. We really enjoyed breathing in all the fresh air.

Common chaffinch.
Another lifer wating for me near the grounds of Grandhotel Giessbach while we were walking back to the funicular station. Yeah!!

The dinning terrace that belongs to Grandhotel Giessbach.
We did not try the food here as I read quite a number of negative review from Google map. Anyway, we need to rush for the next funicular to catch our boat to Iseltwald too.

Giessbach falls - the lowest waterfall at the lake area, next to the ferry station.

In summary -
We lived in cities and naturally, we were excited when visiting nature with waterfall. I must admit the waterfall was not that spectacular compared to other grand waterfall in Switzerland. To us, this waterfall has a very tall height and being able to play with the water while walking underneath it was an amazing experience.
One more tick for my trip - Hiking and  waterfall.

Itinearary at at glance.
