Weather forecast :
Morning and Afternoon - Cloudy.
Night - Rainy.
Going birding with WC, my primary school partner today. This is the 2nd time both of us go out birding/hiking together. The first time was in Mar 2017 at Singapore Botanic Gardens, when WC was already into birding but me? I did not appreciate birding then. Then, we passed by a group of photographers (about less than 10) with long lens shooting a Hooded Pita. Totally do not understand why they need such long lens just for that bird LOL. It was only after I retire in year 2019, I started visiting parks and forest for forest bathing, then I started to appreciate birds and wildlife.
Now back to our trip today. We intended to visit Hindhede Nature Park today. However, after we met at DFNP Car Park A, we decided to visit DFNP first before Hindhede since there isn't much wildlife at Hindhede.
Knowing that the migration season is over, we did not expect much from here. We were quite surprised to see a number of birders in front of Wallace Education Centre waiting for some bird - emmm we did not ask, so not sure what are they waiting for. I decided to check out the Grey Nightjar since someone posted a picture of it at a low perch.

Very disappointed that it was perched on a higher branch than the branch I spotted 3 weeks ago. |

I cannot even capture a proper picture of it. It was sleeping when we spotted it. We failed to get a better location for a clearer view after several tries. That is it. We walked further into Wallace Trail. At the view point, we met the Orange-bellied flowerpecker. It was fast and non-stop moving. So, again, I failed to get a proper shot of it. The sun is out and is really hot now. |

At the view point, we heard noise, not exactly bird calls, I thought it was part of the construction work sounds. Thanks to a lady birder who spotted this Red-crowned Barbet and informed us there. We were under the hot sun and this bird perched on top of a tall tree under the shade. Though in the open, it was a dark shaded bird if we check on it with our naked eye. Only after zoom in with my lens, then I was able to see the colorful neck. Never expect to spot my 19th lifer for 2022 here.

WC spotted this spider web and asked me to try taking a photo of it. I used aperture mode and was not able to capture the web. Only able to capture the lines after switching to auto mode and adjusting my camera at a proper angle. After she introduced birding to me, now she is encouraging me to look into creepy crawlies as well. Glad to know, migratory season is over, but the park is still full of activities.
Before leaving the park, we pay a visit to the "pond" somewhere between carpark A and capark B. A number of birders were there. After checking out with one of the senior birders there, I learnt that the Blue-eared kingfisher did not show up for the past 3 days and the birders are still hoping that it will show up.
Nothing much after this, we decided to proceed to Hindhede Park, our original destination that we wanted to visit.

Check out the 2 other trails.
