Nature walk - Bukit Timah Nature Park. 2nd June 2022.

At 163.63m, Bukit Timah sits at the highest point of Singapore.
I tried the easy way to hike up Bukit Timah Summit and enjoyed my solo hike.
The park can be easily reach by public transport, from Beauty World MRT station.

Follow the MRT signage, exit towards Beauty World Centre. (Exit A).
Head to Level 4 where the Beauty World food Centre (hawker centre) is located.
Look for the link to the overhead bridge.
Cross the overhead bridge and we are already at the rail corridor. (See above picture)

A small section of rail to represent the old KTM Railway Bridge/ Hindhede crossing.
We are now walking on the rail corridor towards Bukit Timah Nature Park.
Once we reach Hindhede crossing, look out for the path on the right. Turn right and we are heading towards Bukit Timah Nature Park.

The Rail Corridor was formerly a railway line that was used for commuting and transporting goods between Singapore and the rest of the Malay Peninsula at the beginning of the 20th century. With the return of railway land to Singapore in 2011, the Rail Corridor forms a continuous open space through the heart of Singapore, and presents an opportunity for communities to shape this space, and forge new memories together.

Here is a short picture video on my walk towards Hindhede Crossing.

Once you reach the visitor centre, you are ready for a hike up the summit.

The road at the starting point of the trail is a little steep. It is easy to walk up the slope. I do have a little difficulty while accessing down the slope while coming down the summit. So, for those will knee and ankle problem, do think twice before attempting.

Do remember to slow down and enjoy the sound of the forest while doing the hike up the summit.

After a short walk from the steep slope, we will come to this point. I did not use the stairs due to my weak knees. I opted for the 540meters walk on the left.

I was surprised that the walk was an easy one towards the summit.

I enjoyed looking at the differnt kind old trees while hiking up too.

It was quite dark when I reached the summit as it was very cloudy after the rain. Actually, I was a little disappointed that there isn't any viewing deck to view the city here. A small space in this picture say it all. Lucky for me, there is this big tree full of uncommon birds that attracted a few birders here spotting for them. Of course, I joined in the fun. However, due to the height of the tree and poor lighting, was not able to capture very good picture. Just enjoy spotting the birds made me happy too.

The landmark : The Bukit Timah Summit rock.
Below are some birds that I spotted today. Most of them are uncommon resident in Singapore. Though picture not perfect, it is still good to record them because it is difficult to spot them in any park.

Blue-winged Leafbird, male.
Jumbu Fruit Dove.

Chestnut-bellied Malkoha.

Black-crested Bulbul.
Asian Fairy-bluebird.

Orange-bellied Flowerpecker.

Red-crowned Barbet.

Thick-billed Green Pigeon.
Plantain Squirrel.
Of course, you will come across squirrels in any park we visit.

The tree that attracted all the uncommon birds here. I believed it is the berries that attracted them all here. Wonder will birds still be here after 2 weeks?
