We love Japan because we love the food. Food cannot be bought in our own country. So if there is a chance, we will go there and eat our hearts out.
Here are the things we ate and how we felt. The things we bought and why.
The top of my list is Matsunoya Tonkastu. Affordable pork cutlet at less thatn S$10 per set. The texture we cannot find over here. The meat just sink into your teeth. The breaded coating is soo fluffy and crunchy. So far, I only can match the Suntec restaurant with this standard. However if we eat in restaurant, it will cost 2 or 3 times the price. |
We found this shop at Tenjin, near to AEON Tenjin. The 1st time I have this was at Tokyo, Ikebukuro. Purposely come here for my 2nd fix. |
It may cost more dining in sushi restaurant. But who cares. In Singapore, Scallop cost $4 per piece. In Fukuoka, only 370yen for 2 big piece. We spent only about $50 over dollars for plenty of fatty tuna and scallops with fishes that were fresh. Definately our 1st choice for restaurant food. |
We have sushi at this place twice - located near the AMU, west of Hakata station. |
Matsuya beef bowl - Another of our favourite. Less than $5 per set. The pieces of beef with ginger and sauce. Taste awesome. Love them for opening late. We found them on the way back to Hakata station from Canal City Hakata. My 1st time trying this was at Osaka last November. Went back for more in Tokyo this Apr. So nice to have it again this trip at Fukuoka. |
The thing about Japanese dessert. Is always so fluffy. So it is worthwhile to have breakfast at a doughnut place, have good coffee and good spongy doughnut. We have these at Mister Doughnut. |
The taste of doughnut already shown here |
Udon never goes wrong in Japan. Have this at Fukuoka Airport restricted area before flying off. Udon Q Q, chives dumpling not over cook. So delicious. |
This is a real treat since we were left with so much Yen to spend. One such dessert cost the same as 1 meal for both of us. Anyway, it is good to at least try them. It cost nearly S$20 for this. Understand from Menu that it is a famous dessert from Kyoto. Yes, indeed, very good. The dumpling do not stick to our teeth. Served with a pinch of green salted tea leaves. We are supposed to eat this if we think there are too much sweetness in our mouth. Order 1 to share with 2 person. Too much for 1 person. |
Starbucks in Fukuoka served different cakes from those in Singapore. Decided to try their sponge cake. Japanese are famous for its sponge cake correct? Yes, indeed must try when we are in JapAn. Sponge cake soooo spongy |
Now for the must buy.
THESE ARE MY MUST BUY HA HA HA |
My number 1 in my list whenever I plan to go Japan. Nissin has it exclusively for Seven Eleven stores in Japan only. This instant noodle has a piece of meat in it. So much so that we can imagine we are having a taste of Japan when we are back here. |
My new find. The scallops is worth it. However quite expensive. I found them at one remote supermarket and it cost almost $4 per packet. There are only about 5 pcs of scallops. However, since we were there, still good to bring them home. |
Strawberries jam never goes wrong from Japan. Look for those who have more strawberries in the bottle. Really worth it. |
Another new find. Instant udon. We round it in a supermarket near Kirin Beer factory. The soft udon were packed in this box with a sweet fried bean curd. It is better to boil the udon in a pot before transfer back to this aluminum foil bowl. to eat. |
Steam egg cake, pancake, we can get it from Seven Eleven. The steam cakes were so soft and spongy. Canned Red bean or packed red bean to bring home to make kueh.
Beauty products were also top of my list
Drip coffee and Japanese tea. The aroma are so different
Fukuoka offer a large variety of goodies in the shopping centre. These marshmallow rabbits are so cute and fluffy. Recommended to buy them home.
Another kind of marshmallow. Strawberries flavour. So light and fluffy. Recommended to bring home. |
The chick in white bean paste. Not too sweet and the skin is soft. So cute and nice to eat. A Hakata goodie that cannot be missed |
Crystal clear skin mochi with strawberry. Very delicious.
