171015-18 Fukuoka, Must Eat, Must buy

Image
We love Japan because we love the food. Food cannot be bought in our own country. So if there is a chance, we will go there and eat our hearts out. Here are the things we ate and how we felt. The things we bought and why. The top of my list is Matsunoya Tonkastu. Affordable pork cutlet at less thatn S$10 per set. The texture we cannot find over here. The meat just sink into your teeth. The breaded coating is soo fluffy and crunchy. So far, I only can match the Suntec restaurant with this standard. However if we eat in restaurant, it will cost 2 or 3 times the price. We found this shop at Tenjin, near to AEON Tenjin. The 1st time I have this was at Tokyo, Ikebukuro. Purposely come here for my 2nd fix. It may cost more dining in sushi restaurant. But who cares. In Singapore, Scallop cost $4 per piece. In Fukuoka, only 370yen for 2 big piece. We spent only about $50 over dollars for plenty of fatty tuna and scallops with fishes that were fresh. Definately our 1st choice for

171016/17 Yatai, Hakata Building top

171016 - Read so much about Yatai. A must see when we were at Fukuoka. It was raining when we visited there. We only found 5 stores and packed with people. It is a tourist gimmick? Anway, next the the river, the lane that runs parallel to it, better to walk with men. The whole street is lined with club, very quiet street and you only see men going to club. Nice to watch but not safe for women. Went up to Hakata Building to have a look on whats up there. Take a lift to 10th level, walk 1 stair up and you can find a viewing platform. You can view the airport from Hakata Station Can even view the sea There is a children playground There is a Train Shrine here

171017 Krin Beer Factory Tour, Cosmos Flower Park

The highlight of our whole trip. Not much information on how to register for Kirin Beer Factory Tour. We decided to go ahead using google maps. First we need to take a JR train from Hakata Station to Yamagi Station. From Yamagi Station, we are supposed to take a Local train (Amagi) line to Tachiarai Station. Then we need to walk 20mins to Kirin Beer Factory. Sounds that simple. At Hakata Station, it took us almost 10 minutes to figure which line and how much to pay and buy the train tickets to Yamagi Station. Then, we do not know which platform to go as there are many of them and all in Japanese. We checked with Station staff and was told we need to wait for our train at Platform 6. Internet map says we better take a exptress train and our train just left. The next express train is at 9.53am. We checked on the screen and they did indicate in the signage that its a local train (all in japanese). However, we say 9.50am, local train, 10am, local train. What happened to our expre

171016 Fukuoka Castle Ruins, Ohori Park

Image
It was raining on our day 2 in Fukuoka. So, we cannot take anymore chances. Luckily, the rain was just those drizzle. So we went ahead to visit Fukuoka Castle Ruins and Ohori park. Walk towards the viewing tower. You can see the skyline. Nice!!! Too bad, too early for autum leave. Gingko tree leaves is only halfway to its yellow. Lucky that we visit before Autum. I can see Gingko fruit and its seeds. Otherwise, I will not know how gingko fruits look like. Ohori park is just located next to Fukuoka Castle. It is just like our Chinese Gardens. Only difference, the weather. With Starbucks located just infront of the lake. You can sit and view the lake. Very relaxing.

171014/15 SIN TO FUKUOKA

My favourite kind of itinerary   SIN to Vietnam, HCM HCM TO Japan, Fukuoka  Realised after the trip that the 4 planes I took do not have individual entertainment station. But it did not affect my mood travelling in Vietnam Airlines. Seat comfortable, not too narrow with good food and staff are nice. Afterall I will be sleeping in the plane. What more do I want with good offer at only $540 to go Japan? Meaning we leave Singapore on Saturday, 8pm. I will have apx 1.5 hour of shopping in the airport.  I can sleep all the way from HCM to Fukuoka in plane and reach Japan at 7.30am. I save a day's hotel cost ($150) yeahhhh. It is also very good to break the flight into 2, so that we need not sit in the plane for straight 7 hours. As planned, we landed in HCM Airport and started to hunt for our favourite coffee. The airport looks different this time compared to 2015 when there are lots of renovations going on.  HCM Airport now has a lounge for sleep at one corner. Y
