12 Aug 2017 2 Dongmen Market, Taipei

Taipei Day 4- 12 Aug 2017
Our 2nd itinerary
Located just next to Hotel 73 where I stayed for my Taipei Trip. If you need to go there from other part of Taipei, you just need to stop at Dongmen MRT station, Exit at 1 or 2. My "auntie" instinct always makes me go for groceries shopping whenever I travel to another country.

Dongmen Market. Located at Dongmen MRT Station. Exit 1 or 2. Local market. The purpose for me to go there is to look for Chinese Ham. Those that you add in 1 slice or 2 to enrich the soup flavour. Googled and I know I can easily find these from Nanmen Market. But, understand it is a crowded place. So decided to try my luck here since it is just next door.It was fun going there as you can see different kind of stalls. Range from clothing stores to fruits s typical meat and vegetables and pickles. Very interesting for someone who cooks to tour indeed.

The most popular food sold. Meat or tofu braised in dark soya sauce. You find this kind of store everywhere. Wonder if they eat it straight away or do they cook them before eating?
Sour prune and other tidbits. Reminded me of 1980s. A must buy for all who visited Taiwan then. Their "sng buay" salted prunes are supposed to be sweet and nicer than those sold in Singapore. Nowadays, nobody buy this to bring back when visiting Taiwan anymore.

Another interesting stall. Look like our typical vegetable rice stall. Only difference is that the whole market is so hot. And you find cook food and non cook food stall located next to each other.

Another stall selling pickles. This time, they pre-packed them.

Bought these grapes at NT100.

Found my Chinese ham at NT520 when I was about to go back to my Hotel.
Only understood when I visited Nanmen market that this is a popular brand but not the famous brand "Jin Hua Ham" The famous brand cost double.
Chinese Ham stall located at traffic light. A last minute find. Almost given up after walking the whole market. So when waiting to cross the traffic light to my hotel, I found these.
Fresh Bamboo shoots. These reminded me of my childhood when my dad will chop the shoots off the bamboo trees and passed to me to wash and boil them. However, these were so small compared to those I cook last time. Don't think we can find these in Singapore's local market anymore.
Fresh meat sausage from a butcher stall. Wonder what is the taste like.
Steam Bun, man tou
