Birding Journal 9th Jan 2023 (Monday) - Hampstead Wetlands Park.

Hampstead Wetlands Park, a little park in Seletar Aerospace park. Though the park is small, I find it charming. The little pond here thought nothing much, provides food for visiting birds. I love taking a walk here, even if there are no birds sighted, if I happened to pass by. I decided to do a solo visit to the park today to check out the Buffy Fish Owl baby by public transport. The park is just opposite this bus stop. Took a bus (number 117) from Punggol MRT station and it will pass by this place before reaching Hampstead Wetlands Park. This was a secured area previously. If I happened to hop into a double decker bus, I would take the front seat of the upper deck and enjoy its scenery before reaching the park. I was lucky this time. Baby Buffy Fish Owl has just woken when I reached. 10am, Baby Buffy Fish owl has just woken and was standing at its nest. Mum was seated near baby, watching it few branches away. There were a few birders whom cannot spot them as the lights were quite lo

26th Dec 2022, Monday. Public holiday. Weather forecast - Heavy rain in the afternoon. Have not been to Sungei Buloh for quite some time, so we planned to visit today. Nowadays, we take things slow for birding. Waking up early do not mean to meet more birds. It was already 10am when we were having breakfast. I was scrolling down the FB Bird sighting page when one birder posted the Black Bazar spotted in Coney Island. The picture was perfect and I exclaimed "wow, there is a black baza in Coney Island. So beautiful". Hubby immediately responded "what bird? what bird? lets go Coney Island later". I was thinking, mmm can lah, go Coney Island save petrol, quite near to my home. Also, my friend MC ever asked me a few times if I am going to Pasir Ris to spot the Black Baza. Would be nice to give her a surprise if I can spot and take a beautiful picture of Black Baza with my new toy. 11.45am - Here we are, at Coney island. There are  few ways to get to Coney Island. We cho

Tuesday.  Weather forecast : Rain clearing in the morning.   Windsor Nature Park Boardwalk. A boardwalk within the MacRitchie Reservoir park. A park that is not famous for birding except for 1 or 2 occasions when some kingfishers arrived. I only realised recently that the Upper Thomson MRT station is located at Thomson Plaza, which is 1.5 bus stop away from this park. This makes waking to this park from the MRT possible for me. Birders has posted that there are 3 cuckoos sighted here 2 days ago. I tell myself to just visit within a week from 1st sighting and not to keep my hope too high.  Usually, migrants will leave after 1 week upon 1st landed. Windsor Nature Park entrance, where the toilet is. It took me at least 15mins to walk from Upper Thomson MRT here. When I arrived at near to 9am, I saw a group of photographers aiming their camera into the green. This is a common sign that birds were spotted and I joined them right away. Square-tailed Drongo Cuckoo . True enough, this black bi

Thursday, Sunny day in the afternoon. Arctic Warbler. Reached about 11am and the tide was high again. My 1st bird spotted was this common migrant. There were so many of them, especially at the look out point on these mangrove trees branches in the middle of the river. The place is more quiet today, perhaps some already gotten what they wanted to spot the day before and did not visit today.  Sulphur-crested  cockatoo. Since there isn't much happening at the boardwalk, I walked over to the Fourth Gun Position area at Labrador park area. While on the way back, I saw the cockatoos family at the seaside area. The young one is holding on its parent by biting on its parents wings.  Sulphur-crested  cockatoo. The active younger cockatoo, never stop moving.  Sulphur-crested  cockatoo. So glad to meet another lifer.  Sulphur-crested  cockatoo. Slowly, the birder's started to gather here to watch this pair.  Straited Heron. The tide is high and this heron looks perfect above the clear bl
